Librarian to Librarian with Ann Tart

Those of you who have been keeping up with Princeton Public Library over the years, especially the last two, know that we used to exist in a large corner of the Princeton Middle High School Library. It gave us an opportunity to get to know the long time school librarian and build a supportive work relationship with each other. We discovered that she retired a few months after our move to the Community Building, and now there is a new head librarian at Princeton Middle High.

Of course we want to get to know our new fellow librarian, make connections, and see how we could work together and support one another as we serve the community. Our services are different, and similar. We will serve the same families and students here in our small town. We messaged Librarian Ann Tart and she graciously accepted our invitation to be interviewed for Small Town Stories. Ann has transformed the library at Princeton Middle-High into a welcome, comforting, and functional space. She has set up areas that meet the different needs of the students and teachers and has been working to draw them into the library. Aimee and Hilda took a short field trip to capture some photos- blurred to keep the student’s privacy.

We learned a little of Ann’s journey to Princeton Library, the many media related tasks she is responsible for outside of library circulation, but the conversation did get around to books, naturally. What else do you expect from us? A leopard can’t change his spots!

Here are some authors and books mentioned in this PALPOD:

Ann, and other staff members at PHS, are active with fundraising for the library and the school. The latest is teaching students to use a 3D Printer and making little Princeton Bulldogs to sell! If you want one, let a PHS staff member know!
