Literary Activist, Author Cindy Brookshire
Our friend Cindy Brookshire is not a Princeton resident, but she is a creative encourager to the Princeton Community and a frequent visitor. Cindy is a wealth of knowledge and experience in the literary realm, and is also active in community building and support. Your small town librarians have been encouraged and inspired by her many times.
In this interview we tried to keep our conversation around the topic of literacy. Cindy is hosting November Write-In, and Princeton Public Library is one of the locations for this month long event. This is what spurred us to interview Cindy now, so that this episode would air before the Write-In begins. Our conversation went far beyond this one literary community building outlet, Cindy shared many tools, ideas, and resources for writers and readers!

During our conversation we also talked about creativity in general, all forms of creativity not only writing. This will be an interview your librarians will come back to time and again for ideas of how we can continue to build and support our local creatives. If you don’t know yet, everyone is creative in some form- just because you don’t paint masterpieces or write classics, don’t give up finding your own creative gifts or stretching your creative mind with artistic pursuits. You might be surprised when you try. One avenue to try out those creative ideas is to attend Community Creative at the library, or the November Write-In.

Cindy shared several resources, here are a few…

Cindy’s Book, A Heart for Selma. We have asked Cindy to return one day for an interview about her work with Activate Selma which has been an inspiration to those working to build community connections and support in Princeton.
Cindy inspired your librarians into action. The PALS Book Room will be open Saturday November 16th, 2024 from 10am-2pm during the Veteran’s Day Celebration. If you go and purchase coffee from Milltown on this day you may ask for a ticket to use at the book sale for a free book! Milltown Java is open until lunchtime on Saturdays. Also, we will be doing something with the Poetry Around Town idea that we will share when the details are ironed out! Follow the Library on Facebook and turn on Notifications to be informed, or stop by the Library and talk to our librarians and check the Community Bulletin Boards!
