Princeton Senior Center with Shahara Wilson

Did you know? Princeton has a Senior Center! It is part of the CSS, Community and Senior Services of Johnston County. Located near the Ray M. Floors Community Park, our Princeton Senior Center has 16 apartments to house residents, and a dining hall/activity room. The Center, with the help of many volunteers, deliver the Meals on Wheels in the Princeton Community. Also there are weekly meals in the dining hall, Monday through Friday at 11:30am, available for all our residents age 60 and over. The activity room is open to the public 9am-1:00 Monday- Friday, for our residents 55 and over.

In this interview we speak with Shahara Wilson, the newly appointed nutrition coordinator at the Center. You will hear about the history of the Princeton Senior Center, what is going on now and what Shahara hopes for the future. Her hope is to have activities, clubs, and FUN planned for our residents. We at the Library hope to work together with the Senior Center. There is ample opportunity for the Princeton Community to volunteer and support this treasure we have right in our little town that serves our residents, and many ways for our seniors to connect with the younger generations. If you would like to volunteer, or learn more about the services, call 919-934-6066.

Shahara also shared information about JCats which is a transportation service for any Johnston County residents, and SHIP – State Health Insurance Assistant Program. There is a Senior Information Board in the foyer of Princeton Public Library with the Senior Center calendar and other helpful information for Seniors.
