Getting to Know the Bread Lady with Vicky Edwards

Vicky is a long time Princeton resident and remembers growing up in Princeton when children rode their bikes to school and spent afternoons playing in the Beaver Dam. When she first moved to Princeton from a busy city when in 3rd grade, she was not happy to leave far behind what she knew as home. She soon adjusted and realized her world had grown even though her home town was now small. She was no longer confined to a small yard, but had a whole town to safely explore with friends. They went to downtown stores, stayed in one another’s homes, and went to church across the street.

My mother loved her family, and she loved the Lord, and she was known as the Bread Lady

Vicky Edwards, PALpod Episode 8

Vicky’s mother, Edna Smith was a founding mother of Princeton Public Library, as Vicky says in the podcast “she loved to read, so she wanted other people to have the opportunity to read, too.” Vicky remembers her mother “always working in the library”. Edna Smith was a vibrant part of our community for years serving in multiple community betterment efforts, and active socially in community clubs and groups. She was a good neighbor and was known around town as the Bread Lady. Princeton is the neighborly town it is today because of people like Edna Smith setting the example for us in days past.
